Turn reading history into learning material
Search, filter, edit, export, and revisit words from your own texts. The source sentence remains available as a richer cue than a translation alone.
Word Hunter 1.0.6 for Windows, Linux, and Android
Word Hunter is a local-first reader, vocabulary trainer, PDF/OCR workspace, and SRS review tool for learners who want to study from real books, articles, subtitles, and scanned documents.
A reading-to-memory workflow
A personal word base is useful when it changes what happens after you close a book. Word Hunter keeps each useful word connected to its sentence, then turns it into an active-recall prompt and schedules another encounter instead of letting it disappear into a notebook.
Use a book, article, subtitle file, EPUB, or PDF. Meaningful context gives an unknown word a situation, tone, and reason to remember it.
Add a translation, grammatical article, note, image, and the original sentence. Your database becomes a record of your vocabulary, not somebody else's generic list.
Reader prompts and flashcards ask for the meaning first. Reveal the answer, use the context as feedback, and rate how well you remembered.
The SRS queue spaces later reviews. You spend time on words that need attention while better-remembered words wait longer between reviews.
Search, filter, edit, export, and revisit words from your own texts. The source sentence remains available as a richer cue than a translation alone.
Looking at a translation can feel familiar without proving that you can retrieve it. A recall attempt makes the review diagnostic and gives feedback something to correct.
Due dates distribute practice over time. Word Hunter also waits until at least the next day before a newly learned word becomes an in-reader recall prompt.
Move from library to reader, word base, flashcards, progress, and Pocket without leaving your own data behind.
Each language has its own library, vocabulary, review queue, and progress.
Word Hunter keeps the source material visible and turns vocabulary work into a natural part of reading.
PDF pages can keep their original background while selectable words, status marks, and OCR/text-layer spacing stay aligned.
Switch PDF reading between the original page background and a focused text-only view when layout gets in the way.
Words are saved with translations, notes, examples, and the text they came from.
No account is required. Data stays local, and sync uses a folder you choose.
Do heavy importing on desktop, then read, zoom, pan, and review on Word Hunter Pocket.
Release builds include Windows installers and portable archives, Android APK and AAB packages, and Linux Flatpak, AppImage, and DEB bundles.
A stable maintenance release focused on keeping the Reader predictable on desktop and Pocket.
Page changes restore keyboard focus, and Play starts from the exact selected word or phrase occurrence.
Words first moved to Learning today no longer appear as in-text review prompts until the following day.
Word-card buttons and fields remain below the selected-word heading while the card content scrolls.
Every bundled reader begins with its catalog title and a consistent Word Hunter Originals attribution.
Incorrect and untranslated Italian labels were reviewed and corrected across the interface.
Windows setup and portable builds, Android APK and AAB, and Linux Flatpak, AppImage, and DEB packages were built and validated by GitHub Actions.
Choose the Windows installer or portable archive, install Word Hunter Pocket on Android, or download Flatpak, AppImage, or DEB for Linux.
The AppImage includes its own Syncthing executable. The DEB uses the distribution-provided syncthing package and leaves /usr/bin/syncthing untouched.
Package-manager status: Scoop is available, the official Homebrew tap for Linux x86_64 is available, WinGet 1.0.6 is under review, AppImageHub is under review, and the F-Droid inclusion request is open. The Chocolatey, Snap, AUR, and Nixpkgs recipes are prepared but are not yet published in their respective package stores.
